‘Drive Straight and Designate’ is the message of the high-profile national awareness initiative run by MEAS to promote the use of Designated Drivers on Irish roads. The campaign calls on the public, when out for a drink, to designate a member of their group to refrain from drinking alcohol during the evening so he/she can drive the group home safely.

Promoted through national and regional press coverage, the Designated Driver campaign is also communicated through national dna local radio, national print and on-trade washroom advertising, trade competitions, PR, designated driver themed e-cards and campaign posters.

The 'Drive Straight and Designate' campaign runs on a yearly basis at Christmas and during other holiday periods. This commitment to road safety and safe driving has been recognised by the European Commission under the Road Safety Charter.
